Applications and Products
Applications
- Industries: automotive, aerospace, electronics
- Materials: aluminum, titanium, heat resistant alloys, granite Products
- Engine components for aircrafts
- Titanium body parts for aircrafts
- Aluminum body parts for automobiles
Advantages and Disadvantages
- Similar to WJM Advantages and Disadvantages
- It is like AJM + WJM
Advantages
- Best of both processes: can cut both hard and soft materials or in very thick sections
- Low kerf even with 200mm-thick materials
- Low cutting forces on WP
- Localized structural changes
- No slag/cutting losses
- Limited tooling requirements
- Finish 125-250 microns
Disadvantages
- High noise levels
- Cannot cut materials sensitive to moisture (degrade quickly)
- Kerf width (1.5-2.3mm) varies with material thickness
- Hard materials -> widest kerf at the top
- Soft materials -> widest kerf at the bottom
- Taper on cut edge is a function of material hardness
Working Principle
- AJM + WJM
- Just like WJM, however abrasives are mixed with the water jet
- Specialist for hard materials
